Summary

A case of pseudomyxoma peritonei, secondary to a ruptured appendiceal mucocele, has been presented. It is desirable to distinguish pseudomyxoma peritonei from other causes of ascites. The best approach to obtain the diagnosis of this condition is by peritoneoscopy. This is a safe and easy method which allowed us to investigate the gross appearence of the condition in the peritoneal cavity. The view of the cysts and nodules of the gelatinous material is clear and characteristic for this condition.

Zusammenfassung

Ein Fall von Pseudomyxoma peritonei nach Ruptur einer Mukozele der Appendix wird vorgestellt. Für die Differentialdiagnose des Aszites erscheint die Laparoskopie am besten geeignet. Der makroskopische Aspekt von Zysten und Knoten aus gelatinösem Material ist pathognomonisch.
