ANTHOCYANINS FROM THE FLOWERS OF BOMBAX MALABARICUM

Abstract

The two flavanoid compounds isolated from the fresh petals of flowers of Bombax malabaricum have been identified as pelargonidin–5–β–glucopyranoside and cyanidin 7–methyl ether–3–β–glucopyranoside on the basis of their various characteristic colour reactions, spectral and degradative studies. The sugar moiety, D–glucose, has been found joined glycosidically by β–linkage as the glycosides were hydrolysed by emulsin.
