Summary
Some very remarkable metabolic products present in higher Fungi are reviewed.
Personal results of chemical investigations of the spores of Ustilago maydis are reported. Four alkaloids were present in the spores of the strain investigated. 6–Methoxybenzoxazol–2–on could be isolated. Furthermore it was shown that the substance named ustilagin by Nicco 1 ini and Mazzanti is a complex ester of sulfuric acid with cholin.
