Ru/Ni(OH)2-Catalyzed Alcohol Oxidation under Oxygen Flow

Significance

Aerobic oxidation of alcohols with Ru/Ni(OH)2 was reported. Thus, the reaction of ­alcohols 1a-j was performed with Ru/Ni(OH)2 under oxygen flow to give the corresponding aldehydes or ketones 2a-j (up to >99% conversion with >99% selectivity; 21 examples) with up to 132 h of TOF. The catalyst was reused four times with slight loss of catalytic activity (˜20% loss in the conversion after the 5th cycle).
