Silver-Catalyzed Cascade Reaction of Terminal Alkynes with Salicylaldehydes

Significance

The authors have developed a highly efficient alkynylation-cyclization cascade reaction of terminal alkynes with salicylaldehydes by using a Cy3P-silver complex as catalyst in water. It is interesting that the counter anions in the silver complex proved to be the key factor to control the E/Z-stereoselectivity. Furthermore, the crude product of the cascade reaction can be efficiently oxidized to aurones without purification.
