Significance

Vicinal diamines are important functional moieties in biologically active molecules. This method of olefin diamination offers a simple synthetic route towards many highly pharmacologically interesting structures. tert-Butyl groups can be readily and selectively cleaved in the products in a strong acidic media. Several important functional groups are well tolerated in this reaction.
