Gold Supported on Hydroxyapatite as a Tandem Catalyst

Significance

A direct tandem synthesis of imines and oximes from alcohols by using gold nanoparticles supported on hydroxyapatite [HAP: Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2] was described. Reaction of ­alcohols with amines with Au/HAP (Au: 1 mol%, 130 mg) under oxygen afforded the corresponding imines (15 examples, 75-99% conversion, 90-99% selectivity, 1-16 h) by a facile tandem oxidation-condensation pathway. The Au/HAP catalyst system was also applied to the tandem synthesis of oximes from alcohols and hydroxylamine (5 examples, 92-97% yield, 2.5-6.5 h).
