Significance

While the combination of FeF3 with SIPr, a saturated NHC ligand, is well suited for the biaryl cross-coupling between aryl chlorides and arylmagnesium reagents, the combination of CoF2 or NiF2 with IPr (the unsaturated analogue of SIPr) shows complementary reactivity for aryl or heteroaryl bromides and iodides, respectively.
