Significance

The authors report a resolution of racemic arene-manganese complexes through the use of a camphor auxiliary. Chromium analogues of these complexes have been successfully applied as chiral auxiliaries and as precursors in asymmetric synthesis. The synthetic utility of the compounds described herein is demonstrated by the synthesis of chiral cyclohexenones.
