Significance

Many classes of ‘privileged’ chiral ligands often provide high enantioselectivities in metal-catalyzed reactions. One such ligand class are C2-bridged chiral diphosphines, which form stable five-membered ring chelates with metals. The authors investigate four members of this family in the palladium-catalyzed enantioselective carbonyl-ene reaction. BINAPHANE-derived catalysts give the highest enantioselectivies compared to BINAPINE, TANGPHOS, and DUPHOS ligands.
