Oxidative Cyanation of Amines Using Heterogeneous Iron Phthalocyanines

Significance

Polymer-supported iron(II) phthalocyanines 1a and 1b were prepared by immobilization of FePcSO2Cl onto aminomethylated polystyrene resin and MeO-PEG 5000-NH2, respec-tively (eq. 1). The polymeric iron(II) phthalocyanines promoted oxidative cyanation of tertiary amines 2 with sodium cyanide and hydrogen peroxide gave the corresponding α-amino nitriles 3 in up to 92% yield (eq. 2, 10 examples).
