Significance
The authors demonstrate the asymmetric Michael addition of aldehydes to 2-amino-1-nitroethenes 4a to afford valuable synthons 5 or 7 for 1,2-diamines and 3-aminopyrrolidines. The obtained syn-adduct ent- 5a could be successfully transformed to (-)-oseltamivir in four steps.
