Significance

Reported is the synthesis of substituted thiazoles through the silver(I) triflate catalyzed reaction of propargyl alcohols with thio­amides. Also reported is a one-pot synthesis of thiazoles through the iron(III) chloride catalyzed ­reaction of propargyl alcohols with amides followed by sulfurization effected by Lawesson’s ­reagent and then ring closure. Mechanisms for these reactions were proposed but no evidence was provided.
