Mizoroki-Heck Reaction of Hypervalent Iodine with Pd Nanocatalyst

Significance

The PEG-400-stabilized Pd nanoparticles were found to promote the Mizoroki-Heck-type reaction of hypervalent iodine reagents with olefins. Thus, the Mizoroki-Heck-type reaction of (diacetoxy)iodobenzene (1a) with methyl acrylate (2a) was carried out with Pd(OAc)2 in the presence of K2CO3 in PEG-400 to give methyl cinnamate (3a) in 99% yield. The in situ generated Pd nanoparticles in PEG-400 were recovered and reused five times with an eventual decrease in activity (1st reuse: 99% yield, 2nd reuse: 86% yield, 3rd reuse: 92% yield, 4th reuse: 88% yield, 5th reuse: 84% yield).
