ESGE Quality in Endoscopy initiative publications

Under the leadership of Professor Matt Rutter, the goal of the ESGE Quality Improvement Committee (QIC) is to globally improve the quality of endoscopy and to promote a unifying theme of quality in endoscopy. The initial project, co-funded by UEG, is to develop Performance Measures for endoscopic procedures and services.

This team encompasses more than one hundred people from 32 countries, divided into five working groups covering four digestive tract areas, namely lower GI, upper GI, pancreatobiliary, and small-bowel, plus an endoscopy service group. QIC’s five working groups are presently defining performance measures which will be published over the next two years.

The first publication, entitled The European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Quality Improvement Initiative: developing performance measures from Matt Rutter et al. was published in the January issue of Endoscopy.

The second publication entitled Reporting systems in gastrointestinal endoscopy: Requirements and standards facilitating quality improvement. European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ESGE) position statement from Michael Bretthauer et al. is presently in press and scheduled to appear in the March issue of Endoscopy.
