Das Lungenkarzinom ist in Deutschland bei den Männern der häufigste Tumor. Ca. 40 000 Menschen sterben pro Jahr in Deutschland daran. Da das Lungenkarzinom in den frühen Stadien häufig asymptomatisch verläuft, wird es häufig erst in fortgeschrittenen Stadien diagnostiziert. Das Zigarettenrauchen stellt den größten Risikofaktor dar. Neben anderen Kanzerogenen stellen die COPD und die Lungenfibrose einen Risikofaktor für die Entwicklung eines Lungenkarzinoms dar. Es werden die bildgebenden Verfahren in der Diagnostik des Lungenkarzinoms dargestellt und im Rahmen der funktionellen Diagnostik wird beschrieben, wie eine präoperative Evaluation durchgeführt wird.

Lung cancer is the major site of cancer in men in Germany. Lung cancer is by far the leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide. The mortality is about 40 000 people in Germany per year. Symptoms usually reflect a manifestation of advanced disease. Lung cancer is related to smoking. The incidence rate of lung cancer in smokers with COPD is higher compared in smokers without COPD. Fibrosis of the lung seems to be as well a comorbidity. The article describes diagnostic imaging in lung cancer and the pre-operative pulmonary evaluation of lung cancer patients.
