Zusammenfassung

Karies ist eine häufige Nebenwirkung der kieferorthopädischen Therapie und führt oftmals zu irreversiblen Zahnhartsubstanz-Schäden. Die Prävention von neuen Läsionen während einer kieferorthopädischen Behandlung ist komplex und bei einem sehr hohen Kariesrisiko nur sehr eingeschränkt möglich. Deshalb sollte die Entscheidung für einen Behandlungsbeginn immer gründlich abgewogen werden und entsprechend des Kariesrisikos entschieden werden, ob die kieferorthopädische Therapie grundsätzlich umgesetzt werden kann.

Abstract

Tooth decay is a common side effect of orthodontic therapy and often leads to irreversible dental hard tissue damage. The prevention of new carious lesions during orthodontic treatment is very complex and has limited effect with high risk.. Therefore, the decision for a therapy should be pondered very carefully and based on the caries risk.
