Zusammenfassung

Demenz stellt ein komplexes Geschehen dar und es macht daher nur wenig Sinn, lediglich einen Faktor zu verändern. Eine ausreichende Versorgung mit bestimmten Nährstoffen scheint Studien zufolge ein wichtiger Faktor zu sein, um die Hirnfunktion bis ins hohe Alter zu erhalten. Dies hat sich für B-Vitamine, Vitamin D und Omega-3-Fettsäuren gezeigt. Probanden mit einer guten Versorgung wiesen ein bis zu 50 % niedrigeres Risiko auf, an Demenz zu erkranken.

Der Beitrag gibt eine Übersicht zu wichtigen Studien. Kasuistiken aus der Praxis des Autors bestätigen die Ergebnisse an konkreten Patienten.

Abstract

Dementia is a complex process and it makes only little sense, to just change one factor. According to studies, a sufficient supply of certain nutrients seems to be an important factor, in order to preserve the brain function up to old age. This applies to B vitamins, vitamin D, and omega-3 fatty acids. Subjects with a good supply showed a risk to develop dementia which is up to 50 % lower.

The article provides an overview of important studies. Case histories from the practice of the author confirm the results in the case of concrete patients.
