5-Trifluoromethyl- and 5-difluoromethyl-2,3-dihydro-1,4-dithiins were synthesized by reaction of (2,2,3,3,3-pentafluoropropyl)- and (2,2,3,3-tetrafluoropropyl)trimethylammonium iodide with sodium hydroxide, followed by treatment with the sodium salt of 1,2-ethanedithiol.
