Dialkyl 2-(dialkylamino)ethylphosphonates were prepared from dialkyl 2-bromoethylphosphonates or ethenylphosphonates and secondary amines or from sodium dialkylphosphites and dialkyl(2-chloroethyl)amines. The diesters can be cleaved to the monoesters by treatment with potassium hydroxide and alcohol. The corresponding sodium salts of the monoesters are obtained by titration to neutrality with aqueous methanolic sodium hydroxide.
