A selective and efficient method for the oxidation of sterically hindered sulfides to sulfoxides is described, which involves the use of hydrogen peroxide in methanol in the presence of catalytic amounts of a mixture of sulfuric acid and isoamyl, isopropyl or tert-butyl alcohol.
