The fluorinated carbenoid reagent XZnCFBr2 was prepared by treatment of tribromofluoromethane with Et2Zn in DMF at -60 °C and allowed to react with aldehydes RCHO chemoselectively to give fluoroalcohols RCH(OH)CFBr2 (1).
