Significance

N-Formylhydroxylamines were readily prepared via the three-step solid-phase synthesis involving the reaction of p-nitrophenyl formate with Wang-O-hydroxylamine and subsequent N-alkylation followed by cleavage from the resin. The N-alkylation reaction was performed with a wide range of alkyl halides (benzyl bromides, benzyl chlorides, an allyl bromide and unactivated alkyl bromides; 12 examples) and substituted benzyl alcohols (2 examples).
