European Board of Paediatric Surgery - Part Two Examination, Barcelona, Spain, 4th and 5th November 2005

It is with pride that this article is submitted to the European Journal of Pediatric Surgery, following the recent Part Two EBPS Examination in the Hospital Sant Joan de Deu in Barcelona. It has to be noted that this is the first year the Exam has been taken in two parts, and the system proved to be a resounding success.

Thanks must go to Professor Luis Morales and his team: Dr. Asteria Albert, Dr. Montserrat Castanou and Dr. Jose Ribo for the excellent hosting of the exams which were held in his clinic in Barcelona.

External examiners included Professor Alexander Holschneider, Professor Ole H. Nielsen, Mr. Stephen Potts and Professor Juan Tovar. Professor Robert Carachi headed up the examination team as Examination Board Chair, supported by the Exam Co-ordinator Rosemary Mackenzie and her Assistant Sharon Hosie.

The candidates arrived individually at the clinic looking extremely nervous, but came together supporting each other through the long days. Out of the highest ever number of candidates presenting themselves for examination, a total of 12 from 15 candidates passed the high examination standard.

The twelve candidates will become Fellows of the European Board of Paediatric Surgery, once the Board has accepted the Examination Team's recommendation for their inclusion on the Register in January 2006.[1]

Special recognition goes to Dr. Ashish P. Desai, who became the only candidate in the history of the EBPS Examination to score full marks: well done Dr. Desai! Following closely behind Dr. Desai was Dr. Najeh Alomari who dropped just one mark throughout the Examination.
