The Essential Oil of Poliomintha incana

Abstract

The essential oil content and composition of freshly gathered Poliomintha incana (Torr.), A. Gray (Labiatae) have been determined using analytical-scale capillary GC, preparative-scale packed column GC, GC/ MS, 1H-NMR, and 13C-NMR techniques. A relatively high yield of volatiles (2.6% of the dried plant) was isolated. The primary component of the oil is pulegone (77%). Other important constituents are 1,8-cineole (3.9%), linalool (3.4%), isopulegone (2.3%), α-terpineol (2.0%), and 8-hydroxy-4-P-menthen-3-one (1.4%).
