Significance

A general chemoselective approach towards the N-arylation of aliphatic amines is presented. The lower reactivity of electron-rich iodobenzenes can be compensated by warming to 40 °C. The relatively mild conditions allow a high functional group tolerance, including nitro-functionalities. The reaction with tryptophan as nucleophile showed that the aliphatic amino functionality is specifically arylated.
