Chromatography-Free Suzuki-Miyaura Reactions Using Polymer Reagents

Significance

A Suzuki-Miyaura reaction protocol that gave coupling products in high purity without the need of chromatographic purification or aqueous work-up was developed. The reaction of aryl halides 1 and arylboronic acids 2 (2 mol equiv) with a polyurea-encapsulated Pd(OAc)2 [Pd(OAc)2 EnCat] and a polymer-supported ammonium carbonate (MP-carbonate) under thermal or microwave conditions gave crude 3 with 2. Incubation with N,N-diethanolaminomethyl polystyrene (PS-DEAM) afforded 3 in high yield with high purity.
