Significance

The authors found a novel application of the Pd/C-catalyzed Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reaction by using arenediazonium tetra­fluoroborate salts as electrophiles. The reaction was observed to proceed much faster than cross-coupling with aryl bromides. It was therefore applied to a one-pot synthesis of unsymmetrical terphenyls featuring subsequent substitution of the diazonium and the bromide moiety with various aryl boronic acids.
