Significance

(-)-Dibromophakellstatin is a pyrrole-imidazole alkaloid isolated from marine sponge Phakellia mauritiana that possesses remarkable cytotoxicity. The focal step of the very concise and high-yielding synthesis of racemic dibromophakellstatin is a palladium-mediated direct vinylation of imidazoline A. For an enantioselective synthesis, see: K.
