One-Pot Three-Component Synthesis of Triazoles in Water

Significance

Reported is a one-pot synthesis of N-aryltriazoles in water using three-component [3+2] Huisgen cycloaddition (click) chemistry. The process involves the in situ formation of arylazides from sodium azide and arylfluorides, followed by the reaction with phenylacetylene which is catalyzed by Cu(I) species [generated in situ by the redox reaction of Cu(0) and Fe(III)], to afford 1,4-di­aryl 1,2,3-triazoles. This methodology was also applied to the synthesis of N-alkyltriazoles. However, the scope and limitations of phenyl acetylene substituents in those reactions were not investigated.
