Using endoscopic variceal ligation (EVL) for esophageal varices may increase the risk of developing or worsening the formation of gastroesophageal varices (GOV). Band ligation, cyanoacrylate injection, and endoscopic ultrasound-guided coil and/or glue injection treatments can be used, but these methods have some risks such as bleeding and ulcer development. There are few case reports about hemoclip in acute gastric variceal bleeding as a safe alternative.

We successfully applied hemoclip for GOV1 to reduce gastric varicose pressure before the esophagus EVL procedure. Hemoclip application for GOV1 may be an alternative, safe, and cost-effective method in primary prophylaxis.
