Summary

Although women represent the majority of patients seen in many aesthetic practices, the number of male patients is increasing. This heightened demand has been attributed to a multitude of factors including interest in enhancing one’s appearance, ageism, competition in the workplace, increasing acceptance of cosmetic procedures, as well as ever-growing societal and social media pressures. Botulinum toxin A (BTX-A) treatments constitute the most popular minimally invasive cosmetic procedure by far. Whereas the general principles of BTX-A treatment for men and women are similar, it is important to acknowledge unique male characteristics that impact assessment and treatment paradigms. Attending to the distinctive needs of the male patient is paramount in order to achieve optimal clinical outcomes and enhance the overall patient experience.
