Centella asiatica (L.) Urb. [ Abb. 1 ] gehört zur Familie der Doldenblütler. Die Pflanze ist u. a. in der indischen, nepalesischen, indonesischen, thailändischen und chinesischen Medizin in Gebrauch. Sie findet sich auch auf der nationalen Liste der wichtigen Arzneimittel Thailands wegen ihren antipyretischen und wundheilenden Eigenschaften. Die Abteilung für die Entwicklung von thailändischer traditioneller und alternativer Medizin nennt Centella asiatica als eines von 5 pflanzlichen Ausgangsprodukten, die sich für die kommerzielle Nutzung eignen.
