Die chronisch degenerative Mitralklappenerkrankung (DMVD) ist die häufigste erworbene Herzerkrankung beim Hund. Dabei handelt es sich um eine chronische myxomatöse Degeneration der Mitralklappe, die eine Verdickung der Klappe und einen inkompletten Schluss der Klappensegel während der Systole verursacht. Die Folge ist eine Mitralklappenregurgitation.
