Die Serumproteinelektrophorese liefert bei verschiedenen Krankheitsbildern Hinweise auf deren Ursache. Zusammen mit den klinischen Befunden und anderen Labortests, wie Blutbild und Konzentrationen verschiedener Entzündungsmarker wie Serum-Amyloid-A, Fibrinogen oder Eisen, lassen sich wertvolle Hinweise auf Natur und Schweregrad von entzündlichen, parasitären oder neoplastischen Erkrankungen ableiten.
