Multimodal Imaging of Schwannoma in Hepatic Hilar Region

Introduction

A schwannoma is a benign mesenchymal tumor, which originates from Schwann cells in the nerve sheath. Most of the schwannomas are located in the cranial or spinal canal cavity, while some may be located in the hepatic hilar region though this is extremely rare. Herein, we present a case of an older woman with two schwannomas in the hepatic hilar region, who then had preoperative multimodal imaging, in which 18F-FDG PET/CT scans showed a markedly increased 18F-FDG uptake, mimicking that of malignant tumors. Subsequently, the patient underwent complete tumor resection.
