Synzytialvirus (RSV).
Abstract
People with diabetes have an increased susceptibility to infections and tend to experience
more severe disease courses due to chronic immune dysfunction. The German Standing
Committee on Vaccination (STIKO) recommends that people with diabetes receive all
standard vaccinations and relevant indication-based vaccines in a timely manner. These
include immunizations against influenza, pneumococcal disease, COVID-19, RSV, herpes
zoster, hepatitis B, and tick-borne encephalitis (FSME). Vaccines can often be coadministered
for convenience and improved adherence. Since this year, new vaccines against influenza
and RSV are available. Age, immune status, comorbidities, and region-specific risks
should guide vaccination decisions. Ensuring adequate vaccination coverage in people
with diabetes is a key preventive strategy to reduce infection-related complications,
hospitalizations, and mortality.
