Aesthetic Management of the Lips, Chin and Submentum

It is with great pleasure that we introduce to you this issue of Facial Plastic Surgery dedicated to the prevention and treatment of aging in the perioral and submental region.
Facial aging is complex due to underlying anatomical changes over time, including bone remodeling, soft tissue loss and descent, and external skin damage in an environment of changing ideals of facial aesthetics. Key to optimal rejuvenation is the use of multimodal treatments to create a balanced and harmonious result, ranging from minimally invasive interventions to surgical soft tissue and skeletal modifications. The authors in this issue are experts in the field of facial aesthetics and will review modern ideals for a youthful appearance of the perioral region, detail the anatomy and how this impacts the decision-making process in facial rejuvenation, and discuss foundational treatments, as well as innovative and emerging technologies to enhance results.
The importance of patient evaluation and treatment planning will be underscored as it allows for customizable patient-specific rejuvenation with a longitudinal care plan to help meet and maintain patient goals. Updates on surface treatments for aged and damaged skin and the use of neuromodulators and fillers for perioral contouring will be presented as key office-based therapies. A review of existing heat and energy-based technologies for soft tissue remodeling and tightening will be provided in addition to a review of existing and emerging surgical procedures to establish facial balance, restore a more youthful appearance, and affirm gender identity.
We thank the authors for their hard work and contributions to this issue and for sharing their expertise. We hope you, as the reader, find this issue helpful in the care of your facial rejuvenation patients.
