Selenoprotein P versus Glutathion-Peroxidase

Zusammenfassung
Freie Radikale entstehen im Organismus oder resultieren aus exogenen Quellen und können zelluläre Schäden an Lipiden, Proteinen und Nukleinsäuren verursachen. Glutathion-Peroxidasen (GPx) sind selenhaltige Enzyme, die zentraler Teil des antioxidativen Schutzsystems der Zelle sind. Studien zeigen, dass GPx als diagnostischer Parameter zur Beurteilung der Selenversorgung weniger geeignet ist. Als bester funktioneller Biomarker gilt nach derzeitigem Kenntnisstand Seleoprotein P (SELENOP). Es ist hauptverantwortlich für den Transport und die Verteilung von Selen im Körper und ermöglicht damit die Synthese von GPx und weiteren selenabhängigen Enzymen. Optimal ist ein Serum-SELENOP-Spiegel von 5–7,5 mg/l.
