Abstract

The response of epididymal fat pads to lipid mobilizing hormones (ACTH and norepinephrine) was studied in rats at various age and after over- or undernutrition during the early postnatal period realized by the adjustement of the number of suckling pups per litter to 4, 8, 14 animals respectively. The stimulation of lipolysis by hormones was higher in young (30-60 days old rats) in comparison with adult (180-300 days old) rats. A higher increase of fatty acid release from adipose tissue after ACTH and norepinephrine addition was found in postnatally slowly growing underfed animals from large size litters in comparison with overfed rats.
