Abstract

Adrenocortical sensitivity in normal man was assessed using nanogram amounts of tetracosactrin. A linear relationship was found between the logarithm of the β1-24 ACTH dose and the plasma Cortisol increment at 20 min in dexamethasone-secobarbital pretreated subjects. The response to 200 ng of tetracosactrin was reproducible and enhanced by dexamethasone pretreatment. When successive injections of 200 ng of tetracosactrin were performed on dexamethasone pretreated subjects at three hour intervals, similar responses were obtained; the second response was blunted when the interval was 45 min.
