Abstract

Mandibular advancement carried out with protrusion appliances enlarges the pharyngeal airway and reduces airway resistance during sleep. Special protrusion appliances used for snoring and definite obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome have been developed on the basis of orthodontic appliances. In the meantime they represent a unique group of appliances. The review provides an overview of the mandibular protrusion efficacy, compliance and dental side effects in the treatment of sleep breathing disorders.
