Abstract

Orthodontic treatment is an elective procedure and clinicians should consider all the treatment options to ensure a satisfactory risk-benefit ratio for each and every patient. Comprehensive treatment may not always benefit the patient. Treatment sometimes has to be postponed until the medical problem is in remission or the side effects of the drug therapy are minimised. Patients should always be involved in the treatment planning phase so that true informed consent can be obtained.
