Nine cases of lung cysts and six of congenital lobar emphysema in infants or children were operated on between 1959 and 1971 at the Paediatric Surgical Unit of the University Surgical Clinic, Heidelberg. The diagnosis was based on the acute signs, especially dyspnoea and cyanosis, and the radiological appearance.
