Summary

Goodpasture's syndrome is characterized by an association of glomerulonephritis with pulmonary haemorrhages. Animal experiments have demonstrated a close antigenic relationship between lung and kidney tissues. The role of an antigen-antibody reaction in the pathogenesis of the syndrome was demonstrated by the authors by means of immunofluorescence. The findings support the hypothesis of an auto-immune disease. Four personal cases illustrate both typical and atypical clinical features and characteristic pathological changes of the syndrome, which must be clearly distinguished from other, related diseases.
