Zusammenfassung
Es wird über einen in Frankfurt beobachteten Fall von Meningitis durch Salmonella
infantis bei einem 24jährigen Mann berichtet. Die Erkrankung heilte unter der langdauernden
Behandlung mit Chloramphenicol und Ampicillin folgenlos aus. Unser Fall stellt den
zwölften veröffentlichten Fall von Meningitis durch nichttyphöse Salmonellentypen
beim Erwachsenen dar. Der Wert der Therapie mit Chloramphenicol wird mit einer Zusammenfassung
von meist frühkindlichen Salmonellenmeningitiden aus der Literatur nachgewiesen. Wegen
des hohen Risikos der Erkrankung und der Rezidivgefahr ist die langdauernde Therapie
mit Chloramphenicol und Ampicillin die zur Zeit beste Behandlung.
Summary
A case of Salmonella infantis infection in a 24-year old man in Frankfurt is reported.
The long-term administration of chloramphenicol and ampicillin produced a cure. This
is the twelfth published case in the world literature of meningitis by non-thyphoid
Salmonella types in adults. Because of the high risk of the disease itself and the
high incidence of recurrence, long-term treatment with chloramphenicol and ampicillin
is at present the best method of treatment.

Meningitis por salmonelas en el adulto
Se informa sobre un caso, observado en Frankfort del Meno, dé meningitis por salmonela
infantil en un varón de 24 años de edad. La enfermedad curó bajo tratamiento de larga
duración con cloranfenicol y ampicilina sin secuelas. Nuestro caso representa el duodécimo
de los publicados de meningitis por tipos no tíficos de salmonelas en adultos. El
valor del tratamiento con cloranfenicol se demuestra con un resumen, procedente de
la literatura, de la mayoría de meningitis infantiles por salmonelas. Debido al gran
riesgo de la enfermedad y al peligro de recidivas, la administración durante largo
tiempo de cloranfenicol y ampicilina es el mejor tratamiento existente en la actualidad.
