The classical type of radical operation, when combined with X-radiation, has significantly bettered the overall results (pre-operative X-radiation followed by radical operation is the method of choice: 5-year survival rates of 60—80% have been reported). Hormonal treatment gives good palliative results when there are metastases, especially to the bones.—More time is needed to evaluate the results of the prophylactic use of hormones to prevent cancer recurrences and metastases after radical operation.
