Das Spätstadium der Colitis ulcerosa

Zusammenfassung

Sechzehn Patienten im Spätstadium der Colitis ulcerosa wurden zwischen fünf und dreiunddreißig Jahren radiologisch nachkontrolliert. In acht Fällen blieb der Röntgenbefund stationär, sieht man von der in drei Fällen beobachteten weiteren Verdickung der retrorektalen Weichteile ab. Bei drei Patienten wurde eine zunehmende Schrumpfung des Kolon beobachtet, während sich der Röntgenbefund in den verbleibenden fünf Fällen über die Jahre weitgehend normalisierte, bevor sich ein Karzinom entwickelte oder die Krankheit in ein aktives Stadium mit Ulzerationen und Pseudopolypen überging.

Das Spätstadium der Colitis ulcerosa ist nicht immer das Endstadium der Erkrankung, weshalb der Begriff „ausgebrannte“ Colitis ulcerosa nicht verwendet werden sollte.

Summary

Sixteen patients in the late stage of ulcerative colitis were followed up radiologically between five and thirty-three years. In eight cases the radiographic findings remained stable, except for progression of widening of the presacral space in three cases. In three other patients further shrinkage of the colon occured, whereas in the remaining five cases a marked improvement in the appearance of the colon was seen over the years, before a carcinoma developped or the disease turned to an active stage with ulcerations and pseudopolyps.

The late stage of the ulcerative colitis is not always the end stage of the disease and therefore the expression “burnt-out“ ulcerative colitis should be abandoned.
