L. pneumophila induced microRNA expression in human lung epithelial cells
Legionella pneumophila cause severe community- and hospital-acquired pneumonia. Lung airway and alveolar epithelial cells comprise an important sentinel system in airborne infections. However, little is known on specific Legionella-induced signal transduction in the lung, especially the effect on chromatin remodeling and miRNA expression are widely unknown. In this study we performed a comprehensive analysis of miRNAs in L. pneumophila-infected lung epithelial cells by Next Generation Sequencing (Solexa Illumnia) and characterized chromatin remodeling on distinct gene promoters by quantitative Chromatin Immunoprecipitation (ChIP). Data are currently analyzed and prepared for systems biology modeling of the host-pathogen interplay.
