Nutrifin motion plus ® is a joint health concept containing a new purified rose hip extract (anti-inflammatory partner) together with collagen hydrolysate (cartilage tissue rebuilding peptides) in a spray dried matrix. Collagen hydrolysates (CH) are high-purity proteins from bovine, pig or fish. Extensive pre-clinical data demonstrates for CH absorption by the body, preferential accumulation in joint cartilage tissue, and then stimulation of new collagen and proteoglycans in the extracellular matrix of the joint cartilage. Clinical studies with 10g/day over a treatment period of 12–24 weeks consistently show a reduction in pain and an improvement in mobility [1, 2].

The rose hip fruit (drug powder) was found as remedy for anti-inflammatory diseases tested against arthritic pain. However, a long-time intake of 12 weeks and high dosages of rose hips powder (≥5g/day) were needed to demonstrate mild efficacy [3].

A new aqueous purified rose hip peel extract (Rosa canina L.) with improved anti-inflammatory potential was developed. Previous in vitro studies demonstrate clear dose-depending effects with regard to cytokine- or MMP- inhibition capacities [4].

Surprisingly we found, that a synergistic effect can be realized when CH and the new rose hip extract is simultaneously given [4]. The synthesis of CH tested in vitro was twice higher for the combination than for collagen hydrolysate alone [5].

With a dosage of 5g CH and 0.5g rose hip extract a non-interventional uncontrolled observational multicenter study in patients (n=108) with osteoarthritis (clinically and radiologically verified) was done. After 8 weeks the subjective WOMAC-score as well as objective parameters like diminished joint space (-32.7%) or osteochondrosis (-33.8%) were significantly improved.

This human study confirmed the former in vitro data and the whole synergistic concept. Nutrifin motion plus ® is unique (patent application WO2009080778) and represents a new qualitative generation of joint health products.
